Diary – Day 2 of the Lake District

Wednesday 20th March 2024

Ambleside

On Tuesday 5th March we set off for another Lake District adventure, today we are heading for Ambleside.

Rucksack packed with flasks, lunch and sweet treats. Our furry pals excitedly running around the lodge. They don’t miss a trick! Clearly they know another walk is imminent as leads and coats are sitting neatly on the chair by the door.

Our car journey begins as we drive past the beautiful little slate built cottages which are dotted along the long winding roads.

Spectacular views are all around. Vast open lakes, rolling hills and snow capped mountains

We arrive at our destination mid morning, with only one car parking space left available..

We have been so surprised at how busy everywhere has been.

We are off for a gentle climb to the caves, ambling around Rydal Water.

The climb to the caves wasn’t as gentle as anticipated, but I made it, as I stop to catch my breath.

Definitely worth it with the views and photos opportunities available

We leave the cave to find somewhere to park our bottoms, rest our feet, relax and have lunch, whilst catching a quick selfie…of course!

After refuelling, we are back on our feet as we amble along the pathways taking in the spectacular scenery.

Regularly stopping for a couple of clicks on my camera.

So much natural beauty it’s hard to know what to capture first, scenery, birds, trees, clouds the possibilities are endless

There is one photo I always have to take and that’s of a Robin!

Even if it’s not a great capture, I cannot resist the Robin!

We walk, we pass, we meet others along our way. Some smile, some speak, some we just shake our heads in disbelief.

Notices have been placed on every gate …Dogs Must Be Kept On A Lead!

Some clearly ignore as their dogs chase the wildlife! The owners do nothing only laugh!

I cannot express how angry it makes me feel, when I see a dog bounding towards a group of defenceless ducks, scattering them in a flapping frenzy!

This is not funny! The amount of stress they put on the ducks and it’s breeding season!

Makes me angry and very very sad.

Our walk is nearly done, as we make our way back towards the carpark.

little birds flitting in and out of the bushes and trees, entertaining us as we walk.

Thought I would end with a photo of some Daffodils as this is the place the famous poet Wordsworth lived.

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Just some of the wonderful words from Wordsworths poem.

Wordsworth live in the Lake District near to Rydal Water for many years.

What a beautiful place to capture the inspiration for his poetry.

  1. What a beautiful day you had for that walk and you have put up a lovely selection of photos. I too hate it when people think they are too important to consider others and livestock!!

Looking forward to the next installment xx
